The Brazilian Virtual Libraries Task
Group was organized by the Brazilian
Internet Steering Committee in 1996 and it is coordinated by the Brazilian
Institution of Information on Science and Technology (IBICT). The Task
Group considers the brazilian libraries must be connected to Internet in
order to make available information sources, according to domestic and
international standards and modern technology. An urgent priority would
be to connect Brazilian libraries to Internet and to improve the training
of information professionals, so that knowledge in this area can be updated
and the mechanisms of publishing and information dissemination modernized,
as well as the nation's memory preserved.
